The first modern Olympics, after a break of maany years. Australia's Teddy Flack ran in the first heat of the 800 metres and won in 2 minutes and 10 seconds. In the 1500 metre event Flack broke away from the Americans to win by 5 metres in 4 minutes 33.2 seconds. Flack was the first Australian to compete, win and give Australians their first real awareness of the existence of the Olympic Games.
